I am one person trying to bring
the Great British spirit back.

There is no company behind Britain Direct. No investors. No board of directors. It is just me — one bloke with a laptop, a belief that our communities are worth fighting for, and a refusal to accept that every high street in this country has to end up the same: empty units, chain coffee shops, and a betting shop.

I built this because I got fed up watching billions drain out of local economies into the accounts of corporations that would not notice if your entire town disappeared tomorrow. Your butcher would notice. Your farm shop owner would notice. The lad who fixes cars from his mum's drive would notice.

Every farm shop listed, every butcher mapped, every county added — I pay for that out of my own pocket. The hosting, the data, the development time at two in the morning when something breaks. All of it.

I am not asking for sympathy. I am asking for help.

Complete transparency

Where every penny goes

There are no salaries here. No marketing budget. No office. Every penny donated goes directly into the things that keep Britain Direct alive and expanding.

Hosting, databases, bandwidth, domain fees, data sourcing for every new category, security certificates, email infrastructure — the list is long and it grows every time another county or category goes live. None of it is free, and all of it comes out of one pocket.

Then there is the time. Every line of code, every late-night fix, every dataset cleaned and checked by hand — that is all unpaid. Willingly, but it is still real hours from a real life.

Your donation does not cover a coffee. It covers the gap between this project surviving and this project growing.

A fiver from you keeps a community visible.
Imagine what a hundred of us could do.

If just 100 people donated £5, that covers three months of hosting and two new categories of local businesses mapped across every county in the United Kingdom. That is thousands of independents made visible to their neighbours — people who had no idea they existed.

This is not about charity. It is about choosing to rebuild something that matters — the Great British high street, the local economy, the sense that your town is yours and worth investing in.

Want to advertise your business? See advertising options or get in touch – we've got your back.

Cannot donate? You can still change everything.

Money helps, but it is not the only thing that keeps this alive. If every person who used this site did just one of these, it would be transformational.

Share with your town

Post a link on your local Facebook group, your WhatsApp family chat, or your work Slack. One share can bring an entire community to their local independents.

Tell a business they are listed

Walk into your local butcher or farm shop and tell them they are on Britain Direct. They will be chuffed — and they might claim their listing and make it even better.

Use the directory yourself

Next time you need a butcher or a farm shop, check here first. Use it. That is literally the point.

Report anything wrong

If a listing is wrong, missing, or closed — let me know. Community accuracy is what makes this better than any corporate directory.

This is not a tech startup. This is a bloke who gives a damn about his country.

I do not have a team. I do not have funding. What I have is a stubborn belief that if enough of us stop sleepwalking into chain stores and start giving our money to the people who actually live beside us, something genuinely changes. Not in theory. In real life. In your town. On your street.

Help me prove that one person — backed by a community — can make a real difference.
